projectWORTH is based in Los Angeles, California. Founded by Maria Milanes, projectWORTH is created to equip young women to fully embrace themselves. With the bombardment of social media, negative self image messages and a lack of role models, Maria’s vision is to bring Christian women in mentorship roles to speak honestly about their experiences to young women ages 11 to 19.
projectWORTH is a safe place for interpersonal discovery and affirmation of true self worth for young women. It’s not only just desperately needed – it’s new & exciting. As a community organizer, Maria recognized a deep need in her community for young women to be encouraged and loved in a meaningful way. With the challenge of ever more access to media and discouraging online content, our message to young women is clear …
…you are valuable and you have immeasurable worth. Do not let anything or anybody tell you differently.
Without an equal and opposite amount of input & media proclaiming encouragement & positive reinforcement, the danger becomes believing the lie of unworthiness. Our fast paced world of unending image enhancement is holding our young female hearts & their unique gifts unfairly captive.
For those who have personally experienced that shameful feeling of a lack of significance, the price of carrying the shame hides away a woman’s true beauty. She becomes unseen, unknown and often times – isolated. Jesus said,
I came to set the captives free…
…and for those of us who identify ourselves with Him and already know the price of our freedom, we remain steadfast in the fight for young minds. How we learn to perceive ourselves at a young age through the world’s eyes is not truth. Who God says we are is our “true worth” and yes it is true – we are of great WORTH. projectWORTH is a powerful dialogue and a new kind of conversation for young women to have the opportunity to engage in the truth of their own personal value – through God’s eyes:
